Glass That Holds the Stars — Mieko Noguchi's "The Home of Stars #2"

What if an entire night sky could be sealed inside a small glass sphere? There is a work that gives that idea real form.

Glass artist Mieko Noguchi's special exhibition "The Home of Stars #2" is currently on at SORA, Taisho Glass in Otaru. Countless points of light float within deep indigo glass, with silver swirling outward like a spiral galaxy. Held in the palm of your hand, it feels as though a small universe truly lives inside.

The exhibition period is nearly at an end, but on August 22 and 23, Mieko Noguchi herself will be at the shop. It's a rare chance to see the works in person while hearing directly from the artist about her process and the thoughts behind each piece.
