Service Description

Taisho Glass offers a popular Tonbo-dama (glass bead) making experience, where you can enjoy Otaru’s traditional glass culture and create your own one-of-a-kind glass bead. Even first-time visitors can participate with confidence, as our staff will guide you carefully throughout the process. STEP 1: Choose Your Pattern Select your favorite design from a variety of patterns such as stripes, marble, or polka dots. STEP 2: Choose Your Colors Pick your preferred colors from a rich selection of glass rods. STEP 3: Create Your Tonbo-dama (Approx. 15 min) Melt the glass with a burner, wind it around a rod, and shape it while adding patterns. Our staff will support you closely, making it safe and enjoyable even for children and beginners. STEP 4: Cooling (Approx. 40 min) Your piece will be slowly cooled for about 40 minutes. During this time, you can enjoy browsing our shop or exploring the area. STEP 5: Pickup Your bead will be ready about 40 minutes after completion, or by 7:00 PM on the same day. Shipping to your home is also available for an additional fee. Time Required Making: approx. 15 minutes Cooling: approx. 40 minutes Age Requirement From 1st grade elementary school and up (Beginner-friendly) Finished Tonbo-dama beads can be turned into accessories such as straps or necklaces. This experience is perfect for those who want to enjoy Otaru’s glass culture and create a memorable handmade souvenir in a short time.
